Honorary Alumni Award - Richard Moehl
Richard Moehl ardently supports both the
biology department and the Clarke Historical Library at CMU.
His nominator for the award
wrote, “If he sees a way for CMU to be involved in any opportunity for funding
or acquisition, he is on the phone to let us know about it, along with an offer
to help.”
Richard is helping with the
university’s efforts to acquire a boathouse on Beaver Island for use at the CMU
Biological Station. He has visited campus for meetings about the project and has
drawn into the discussions others who may be able to help.
He serves as president of the
Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association, based in Mackinaw City, and he is
co-founder of the Michigan Lighthouse Project, a collaboration of agencies and
associations to facilitate the transfer of lighthouses in Michigan.
Richard arranged to conduct a
GLLKA meeting in the Park Library, and when the members saw the Clarke
Historical Library, the association voted to donate its archives to the library.
The association has continued to conduct its meetings at the Clarke, and many
members have become donors and supporters of the library.
Before retirement, Richard
had a 32-year career in the field of investments and was a founding partner of
Beacon Investment Co., Ann Arbor. In 2000 he received the Gov. George Romney
Lifetime Achievement Volunteer Service Award.
