Commitment Award - JoAnn Hinds
JoAnn Hinds, ’72 MS ’77, is one of the most fervent and ardent
supporters of the CMU Biological Station on Beaver Island.
As a student, she earned a
bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in biology and logged many hours at the
biological station.
After graduation, she taught
high school and then went to work for her father at Diamond Die and Mold Co. in
Mount Clemens, where she is now president.
JoAnn became reacquainted
with CMU in 1997 when she participated in a fundraising effort to acquire
Miller’s Marsh on Beaver Island. This rekindled her great love and support of
the CMU Biological Station.
Since then she has given
generously to several island projects and has once again become a regular
visitor to Beaver Island. During a visit last summer, Jim Gillingham, the
director of the biological station, mentioned that there was a house for sale on
property adjacent to the station. JoAnn promptly purchased the home and property
for CMU.
Since 2000 JoAnn has served
on the CMU Development Board, and she serves on the New Vision of Excellence
capital campaign executive committee. She also participates on the College of
Science and Technology capital campaign committee as the group’s Beaver Island
expert.
