CMU prof
named best in state

For the second time in three years, the state’s top professor hails from CMU.

Norma Bailey, professor of teacher education and professional development, has been named the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching 2007 Michigan Professor of the Year. The awards were to be presented by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education during a mid-November luncheon and reception in Washington, D.C.

Bailey, who has taught at CMU since 1996 and specializes in middle level education and diversity education, joins three colleagues who have been named Michigan Professor of the Year during the past decade, the most from an Michigan school. Others are marketing and hospitality services administration assistant professor Gary Gagnon, the 2005 recipient; geography professor Mark Francek, the 2002 recipient; and psychology professor Gary Dunbar, the 1997 recipient.
