The Embers will remain in our memories
Editor:
I was saddened when the Winter 2007 edition arrived to see that The Embers had closed! My wife Cherie, ’91, and I were married in Bay City on Sept. 29, 1990, and moved our wedding party to The Embers for the reception and dinner. Indeed we all thoroughly enjoyed the famous one-pound pork chop!
Unfortunately, we never made it back to The Embers after that, however this is one memory that stays in the banks forever. Thank you Tuma family for being a cornerstone in Mount Pleasant for so many years.

Remembering an Embers tradition
Editor:
I was sad to see The Embers has closed.
Our family had a tradition for our eighth birthday. Besides getting a two-wheeled Schwinn bike, we were treated to a dinner at The Embers. I lived in Midland, so it was special dressing up, driving to Mount Pleasant with only my parents (everyone else stayed home with a babysitter) and eating at our first fancy restaurant.
I am sure my brother couldn’t have cared less about going out to eat when it came his turn, but my older sister and I both loved it. We attended Central when we got older and would eat at The Embers for other special occasions.
I am glad you were able to get the pork chop recipe, but is there any hope of getting the recipe for the pea and peanut salad? I always loved that and have never been able to duplicate it.

Sorry Jean, the peas and peanuts recipe will stay a Tuma family secret. But for those of you who missed the pork chop recipe, it’s online at:

Story captured The Embers’ last night
Editor:
Thank you for your story on The Embers’ closing. It was a wonderful tribute to my father and brother who for so many years have worked to bring “real dining” to Mount Pleasant. You did a wonderful job of expressing the last night of The Embers. Of course we were all there to say goodbye, as it has been more of a second home to us than just the place my dad works. There have been many stories written about The Embers this past nine months. I believe you captured the real feeling of the place and how it was to say goodbye.

Thanks for fun event

Editor:
Just wanted to send a quick note to thank you for all the fun and hospitality we enjoyed at the CMU vs. Purdue tailgate party – our first alumni event since we graduated way back in 1984 and 1985. This event was all the more special as it was also Family Day at Purdue University where our middle son, Jonathan, is a freshman in the School of Technology. Thanks again, and we look forward to our next alumni event.
