The Alumni Association has been giving awards since approximately 1970. The award categories are:

Community Recognition Alumni Award
This award is presented to a graduate in recognition of their distinctive service of a humanitarian nature or citizenship through community and public service activities.

Distinguished Alumni Award
This award is presented to a graduate in recognition of their remarkable professional success and the positive reflection made on the reputation of all graduates of Central Michigan University.

Honorary Alumni Award
This award is presented to an individual who is not a CMU graduate, but gives of their time, talents, and enthusiasm as if they were.

Alumni Commitment Award
This award is presented to a graduate in recognition of their continued contribution of time, talent, or financial resources to help advance and bring positive recognition to Central Michigan University.

Outstanding Young Alumni Award
This award is presented to a recent graduate (within the past five years) in recognition of their professional success and/or their outstanding service to their community.
